For decades, Habitat for Humanity Charlotte Region has worked to help fill the gap and build or rehab homes to create more affordable housing here. In many locations, Habitat for Humanity operates ReStores, which sell reusable and surplus building materials, furniture and appliances to the public. Carya Pond will be made up of 40 Habitat units and 43 units to be sold on the open market, "symbolizing a blend of Habitat's homeownership mission and market-rate housing," the organization said. “By combining our resources with the expertise of Kingdom Development Partners and Harmon Construction, we can create a vibrant community in addition to building homes and hope,” Belcher said. The organization said that half of the 83 townhomes in the community will be sold at market rates and half will be sold to families in the Habitat for Humanity program.
Help build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
Through this transformation, families achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life. Habitat homeowners must be active participants in building a better home and future for themselves and their families. For us, it is one answer to a critical need, and we believe that stronger homes will create stronger communities. Habitat will finance and prepare the land for construction and the two local development companies will build the townhomes.

As a fundraising arm of Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, proceeds from the six Charlotte Region ReStore locations and our online store are used to help build and repair homes for hard-working families right here in our community. We strive to be an organization that reflects the community we serve and lifts the diverse voices of our employees, homeowners, volunteers, and donors.

I'm just saying, when things happen like this, people will surface to try to take advantage of this situation," Schattner said. "You have companies that will come into town that will basically try to file claims on your behalf and if you sign a contract with them and you sign your rights over ... they can actually take your money and run," Schattner said. "They might do the work right now, but then leave town ... then you have a problem five months from now, and you have no one to call."
